This review covers both of the Verbal test packs that GL Assessment publish, there are multiple choice and standard versions of each of the 2 packs and this review covers all of them.
The examination board sets of practice papers are always an important source of information on both the format and question types to be expected in an exam. GL Assessment have been publishing these papers since 2010, and they have consistently been shown to be an excellent match for the annual exams. In general there has been little attempt by the exam boards to ‘tutor proof’ the Verbal Reasoning papers, and hence these packs are an excellent match for the final exam.
There are 4 tests in each pack, with exam style answer sheets, and a ‘Notes & Answers for Parents’ booklet. They provide a very good simulation of the GL Assessment Tests, but to be clear, they are NOT appropriate for the other test providers.
The tests are particularly accurate and effective in simulating the true 11 plus exams and match the level and style of questioning precisely. Answers are provided, however there are no explanations, as the paper itself contains all the information required to understand how the questions work.
I thoroughly recommend these tests. These practice papers are the most authoritative Verbal Reasoning 11 plus resources for the GL Assessment test and they form an essential part of your child’s preparations. The timings, structure, answer sheets and questioning styles match the exam precisely and are a comprehensive representation of the exam. If you have prepared your child by teaching them the various questioning styles, and they have already practiced their skills using other books and resources, these papers are perfect for the final pre-exam revision period.
